-
- This file will hopefully give you some tips on how to hack answering
- machines, giving you the ability to alter answering announcements and erase
- messages.
-
-
- Purpose:
-
- There are really quite a few reasons that one might want to waste
- his/her time hacking out messages machines... Here's a few.
-
- 1) Investigation. For those who would like some inside info on the person
- they might be investigating.
-
- 2) Anarchy. It is somewhat annoying to those who own the machines when
- everyday their announcements have been altered and their messages erased.
-
- 3) Revenge. Same results as above... very annoying...
-
-
- Procedure:
-
- After you have the number of the answering machine that you want, the
- fun begins. The procedure is idiotically simple. On most of the less
- expensive (and even some of the more expensive machines) there is a single
- digit remote code to enter after the announcement is done and it beeps at you.
- The machine will then play back its messages and possible give you the chance
- to change the announcement remotely. The phone must be the type of touch tone
- that emits a tone as long as the button is pressed. After the announcement
- and the beep, just start running through the numbers, keeping them pressed for
- two seconds each and then moving on after the machine does not respond. When
- you have hit the correct number (code), the machine should beep back at you or
- you might hear the tape rewinding.
-
- After hearing the messages played back to you the machine might do a
- few different things depending on the type of machine you have.
-
- 1) It will beep, signifying the end of the messages, and give you a recorded
- automated message telling you to enter the single digit code to delete the
- messages, and then pause and again and ask you if you want to rerecord the
- announcement. It will coach you from there.
-
- 2) It will beep with one tone, if you enter the code it will replay the
- messages. After the first tone it will change to another tone, if you type
- the code, I have found that it deletes the announcement and the messages...
- It crashed the answering machine so I never figured the rest out. The owners
- proceeded to buy another machine and I haven't had time to bug them lately...
- give them a call after 5:00 pm (408) 354-9944
-
- 3) It might also might just beep to signify the end of the messages and then
- reset to answer mode. The problem with these answering machines is that they
- erase the messages and don't let you save them. Sometimes the owners will
- notice the lack of messages and take action.
-
-
- Miscellaneous Notes:
-
- Some answering machines have a certain number of rings to signify if
- messages have been left. For example, four rings would mean no messages have
- been left when two rings would mean that messages have been left.
-
- I was told that one person was hacking this answering machine and the
- owner got so pissed that he called MA-BELL and traced the guy. I don't think
- you would get into too much trouble, but there is something in the phone book
- that says its illegal to harass people over the phone... You figure it out.
- I don't think there is a big risk...
-
- Look on the back of a persons answering machine and you will probably
- find a sticker with a single number on it. That is the remote code. Good if
- you can get close to the person's answering machine that you want to hack.
-
- I have no idea, but there is a chance that some answering machines
- have 2 and 3 digit codes. I have never seen ones like that, but they might
- exist... go and find out for me.
-
- There are also answering machines that come with little boxes that
- produce a tone that will make the answering machine replay the messages and
- possibly let you redo the announcement.
-
- There also seems to be the possibility that the owner can turn the
- remote code off. I don't know how this is done, but I have been able to hack
- someone's answering machine one day and not the next.
